SWALLOW THE SUN

Although the style of Swallow The Sun has changed over time, the mostly dark and melancholic melodies and strongly varying tempos remain characteristic of the music. In the beginning, Swallow the Sun played slow death doom with "grinding guitar riffs" and "dark growl vocals" alternating with clear vocals, with guttural vocals dominating. Morgion, My Dying Bride, the early work of Katatonia or Amorphis are comparable. With the album When a Shadow Is Forced into the Light, however, they turned away from this and moved stylistically more towards gothic metal, or rather gothic rock and post-rock/metal. The clear vocals were used more extensively and with a greater presence and heavier passages with screams and growls were sometimes completely absent.

One of the cornerstones of Finnish melodic death metal is back in action. Led by multi-instrumentalist Tuomas Saukkonen, Before The Dawn released a new masterpiece of an album "Stormbringers" in June 2023. The band also hit the road for the first time in over 10 years with successful tours in Finland and Europe. Before The Dawn released an EP called "Archaic Flame" in early 2024 and will soon be back in the studio for more melancholic yet crushing metal. Before The Dawn are: Paavo Laapotti (vocals), Juho Räihä (guitars), Pyry Hanski (bass) and Tuomas Saukkonen (drums).

With ten critically and commercially acclaimed albums, and career-defining performances at Wacken Open Air and multiple sold-out tours in their homeland, their success speaks for itself. But it's the band's creative output that truly sets them apart. Technically brilliant, packed with infectious energy, and marked by Antti Hyyrynen's distinctive vocals, their music is fierce, fearless, and unbound by a single genre. While rooted in thrash metal, Stam1na cleverly incorporates elements of progressive metal and punk, blending them with a unique ingenuity.
