With the "SWING GEORG" concert series, Cologne-based trumpeter Thimo Niesterok celebrates the music of the swing era in a variety of top-class line-ups.
Paul Heller, a saxophonist who has been a member of the WDR Big Band for 20 years, is one of the central figures of the Cologne jazz scene. As a sought-after soloist, he has worked for many years with Ack van Rooyen, Bob Brookmeyer, Al Foster and Dusko Goykovich.
Together with Rolf Marx (guitar) and Henning Gailing (double bass), Thimo Niesterok and Paul Heller embark on a musical foray through the repertoire of the Great American Songbook in a chamber music setting that is nevertheless full of energy.
Thimo Niesterok (*1996) is one of the outstanding voices of the young German jazz scene and is a fascinating trumpeter not only because of his extraordinary musicality, but also because of his passion for swing and mainstream jazz.
Niesterok's warm, nuanced tone and unmistakable phrasing lend his musical language a special depth that delights both long-time jazz fans and new and especially young listeners alike.
