A story about dinosaurs, feelings and the end of the world | By Fayer Koch | Commissioned by the TDJW | World premiere
The world is coming to an end. An asteroid impact makes (almost) all the dinos disappear, leaving behind fog and dust. But a new world begins for Nagg, who hatches out of the egg as a T-Rex in the midst of the downfall.
Nagg grows up with the only surviving dinosaurs, Babsi and Päm. Ever since the asteroid impact, Päm has been in a permanent state of fear of the next catastrophe, while Babsi loses herself in archiving every last trace of the past. But Nagg doesn't know the past, Nagg only knows the present. When Nagg asks the two of them about the world before the asteroid impact, the grown-up dinos block it out. Dinos have to be strong, bite their way through, and they can't cry anyway. When Nagg meets a group of scurrying creatures from dusty holes in the earth, these truths are turned upside down. They sing, howl and make Nagg understand himself and the world in a new way.
T REX, BIST DU TRAURIG? is Fayer Koch's second world premiere at the TDJW. Koch's theater texts have received several awards, most recently the renowned German-Dutch author prize "Kaas & Kappes". With this play commission, Fayer Koch once again uses his literary flair to focus on young perspectives on a complex world.
