Tanz! Heilbronn: Hush von De Dansers (NE)

"Hush" is a mixture of dance performance and pop concert, in which dance and live music go hand in hand on an equal footing. De Dansers find solace in dance and music. A hand on your shoulder; a second voice that is there wherever you go; a rhythm that you nestle into as if in an embrace. Dancers and musicians move towards each other, crossing the boundaries between dance and music. The dancers become musicians, the musicians become dancers. Guitar sounds drive the performers into each other's arms. Swaying bodies reinforce the rhythm of the music. With every movement and every note, the performers watch and listen to each other very closely. A drummer follows the movements of a dancer with great precision. Three bodies and three voices move synchronously across the stage. "Hush" is not told through individual performances, but through the meticulous attention and dedication that prevails between the players. The performers are there for each other and support each other. How do you find solace? Or the courage to face the world? In "Hush", De Dansers seek the answer in gentleness and attention for each other. If you want to bear the world, it helps not to be alone.

De Dansers is an ensemble of dancers and musicians from Utrecht, led by choreographer and dancer Josephine van Rheenen and composer and musician Guy Corneille. Their "dance concerts" are organic encounters between contemporary dance and live music. With playful anarchy, they tell stories that everyone understands. De Dansers creates pieces against the feeling of immobility.

Choreographer
Josephine van Rheenen (*1988) trained as a dance teacher at the Amsterdam Theater School and started working as a dancer with De Dansers during her studies. After five years on stage with the companies De Dansers, Vloeistof and Breekgoed, she took over from Wies Merkx as artistic director of De Dansers together with Guy Corneille in 2014. Since then, she has been creating her own pieces for De Dansers for children and adults. As a choreographer, Josephine searches for humanity in dance and strives for an intuitive dance language based on instincts. Openness, devotion and interaction are key words in her work.

Composer/performer
Guy Corneille (*1990) has been artistic director of De Dansers together with Josephine van Rheenen since 2014. During the performances, he leaps across the stage as a (self-taught) musician and physical performer at the same time. He also collaborates with choreographer Josephine van Rheenen as a composer and music-oriented dramaturge. Guy has an academic background in socio-cultural anthropology and a past in the pop circus with his indie band La Corneille. His artistic interests lie in the mediation of physical/emotional experiences, the unforced performativity of pop concerts and works that are accessible without being superficial or cheap.
