Creating the Link / Dance Workshop

How do we perceive movement - when sight and hearing fade into the background? In this open, two-hour workshop, we will explore new ways of perceiving, communicating and moving - through touch, sound and presence.

Artists Marje Hirvonen, Saïd Gharbi and Max Greyson invite you to join them in exploring body, language and physical identity.

Together we will play with proximity, audience, movement and verbal interaction - and sharpen our senses in the process. How do seeing and hearing influence our forms of expression? And what emerges in their absence?

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 The workshop is aimed at dancers and anyone interested - with and without visual impairments.
🗣 The workshop will be held in English.

The workshop is part of an ongoing artist residency at Un-Label. Three artists will meet in the Un-Label Studio to explore the interfaces between body language, sensory perception and the relationship between performer and audience.

The artistic research trio consists of Marje Hirvonen, a choreographer whose work explores the interactions between body and psyche, Saïd Gharbi, one of the few blind professional dancers in Europe, and Max Greyson, a poet and one of the pioneering experts in artistic audio description.

In their residency, they question conventional performance formats and invite the audience to experience movement beyond sight.

Marje Hirvonen, Saïd Gharbi and Max Greyson are guests of the L.I.K. - Laboratory for Inclusive Culture artist residency in April 2025.

We invite dancers and other interested participants - with and without visual impairments - to join our research residency for an open dance workshop on 23 April at 7 PM at the Un-Label Studio in Cologne.

Together, we will play with proximity, audience, body, and language - experimenting with physical and verbal interaction by sharpening our senses.

How do vision and sound shape movement and text? And what happens in their absence?
Let's investigate new ways of perceiving, moving, and communicating - through touch, sound, and presence.

🗣 The workshop takes place in English spoken language.

This workshop is part of the artistic residency Creating the Link, which focuses on exploring the intersection of body language, sensory perception, and the relationship between performers and audiences.

The unique artistic trio - Max Greyson, a leading innovator in artistic Audio Description; Saïd Gharbi, a pioneering blind dancer; and Marje Hirvonen, a choreographer exploring the edges of embodiment - challenges conventional performance and invites audiences into a world where movement is experienced beyond sight.

Marje Hirvonen, Saïd Gharbi, and Max Greyson will be in residence at L.I.K. - Laboratory for Inclusive Culture for two weeks in April 2025.
