With Ekko, Irish-Norwegian artist Tara Nome Doyle presents her third album - a journey that ventures outwards into the unknown and inwards into the depths of the self. Along the way, it explores pain, farewells, new beginnings and ultimately arrival and acceptance. Ancient myths run seamlessly through Ekko and intertwine with Tara's introspective themes. The figures of Narcissus and the nymph Echo embody two extremes - self-obsession on the one hand and complete conformity on the other. Both poles in today's digital landscape, where identity is often caught between authenticity and the pressure to conform. Echo, in Tara's sense, is more than a passive voice; it is a medium to reshape and reclaim meanings. And so the vulnerability in her songs shifts to quiet strength that accepts fears rather than suppressing them. Musically, her new songs also reflect a remarkable clarity and radiate a newfound freedom as a precise, reduced soundscape, carried by this beguiling voice behind the most beautiful, rugged, sweet and painful songs currently to be heard in pop.
