Seventeen-year-old Olha visits her father in Butscha in February 2022. She can barely hear, but she senses the tension spreading through the city. In a few days, the world as she knew it will disappear: The Russian military will take Butscha, and her family will be trapped in their own home. In the chaos and cruelty of the occupation, the girl must find the strength to survive and protect her loved ones. The Daughter is not just a story about war.

It is a story about choices. Director Yegor Olesov states that this movie tells of the indomitable human spirit even in the darkest moments.

The movie is based on true events. It is based on the stories of civilians from Butsha who survived the Russian occupation. The film team consulted with eyewitnesses and volunteers to convey the details of life in the town during the fighting.

In order to immerse the viewer in the events and show them from the inside, the filmmakers used a single-frame technique. The camera does not look away, does not pause and immerses the viewer in a continuous stream of events, creating the effect of presence.

Лютий 2022 року. Сімнадцятирічна Ольга приїжджає до батька в Бучу. Вона майже не чує, але гостро відчуває напругу, що розтікається містом. За кілька днів цей світ, який вона знала, зникне: російські військові захоплять Бучу, а її сім'я опиниться у пастці власцного дому. У хаоосі й жорстокості окупації дівчина мусить знайти в собі сили, щоби вижити й захистити найрідніших. "Донька" - це не просто історія війни.

Це історія про вибір. Режисер Єгор Олесов зазначає, що цей фільм розповідає про незламність людського духу навіть у найтемніші моменти.

Стрічка заснована на реальних подіях. В її основі - історії мирних мешканців Бучі, які пережили російську окупацію. Знімальна група консультувалася з очевидцями та волонтерами, щоб передати деталі життя в місті під час бойових дій.

Для того, щоби занурити глядача у події та показати їх зсередини, творці фільму використали технологію одного кадру. Камера не відводить погляду, не дає перепочинку, занурюючи у безперервний потік подій, створююючи ефект присутності.
