THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT

In the organizer's words:

I grew up in the 2000s, and my generation is defined by addiction and consumption in various forms. We are constantly on the lookout - for distraction, for stimulation, for affirmation. But what are we actually running away from? Is it the expectations of society, peer pressure, or perhaps the fear of an increasingly uncertain future? This exhibition documents the escapism of our time in an ironic way, figuratively and with oil paints. It shows how we try to distract ourselves from the uncertainties and fears that surround us through consumption, technology and social media. From the endless flood of information to existential angst, we are trapped in a world that demands more and more from us while fulfilling less and less. The exhibition offers not only a mirror for the 'kids' of the noughties, but also an invitation for everyone to see the world through the eyes of those who have grown up with digital media and an impending climate change. Are the kids really alright?

The artist:

NIKOLINA WEBERS is a 22-year-old artist from Munich and currently works as Gülbin Ünlü's studio assistant. Unfulfilled by studying art history during the Corona pandemic, she started painting herself instead of just writing about it. Her participation in the exhibition "Junge Gruppendynamik" (Lenbachhaus, 2022) was an important starting point for her artistic work. Since then, she has devoted herself to documenting her social environment in her thoughts and paintings. Nikolina's current artistic practice is figurative and is mostly based on her own photographs. The apparent contrast between a formally colorful design and the image content is always intended to underline the ambiguity of the subject matter addressed. (Source: Artist)
