In the exhibition "The Only Material", Ukrainian journalists talk about their work. They talk about the dreams that once inspired them and how the war changed them.

What brings journalists to their profession? For the exhibition "The Only Material", the European Center for Press and Media Freedom asked Ukrainian journalists what fascinates them about their profession. Only a few wanted to report on the war. Others were interested in the environment, science, gender equality or social justice. These original motives persist and now stand alongside the urgent demands of war reporting.

The exhibition shows how journalism developed in Ukraine and reveals the resilience of the journalists, their quiet defiance and their unwavering pursuit of truth. In the midst of destruction, they create space for honesty and hope. Their work is not only a testimony, but also part of a global struggle for democratic values.
