For more than ten years, Rona (Saoirse Ronan) has been away from home on an island off the north coast of Scotland, part of the Orkney archipelago. The world there seems completely different to the one she has lived in for the past decade in the metropolis of London. For Rona, her time in the metropolis also meant absolute excess. But after one drug binge after another, Rona hit the hard ground of reality and ended up in a rehab clinic. Still under the influence, it is not easy for her to come to terms with the change of pace on the sleepy sheep farm where she grew up. Here, childhood memories from the depths of consciousness are flushed back to the surface and mixed with the intoxication of the recent past. But it is precisely these contrasts that Rona hopes will provide her with a path to healing.
