Handel's "Alcina" at the Staatstheater Nürnberg has ended - Handel fans will now have the opportunity to enjoy another great Handel work on Saturday, 24 May at 8 pm in the Lorenzkirche Nürnberg: the energetic choral work "Alexander 's Feast or The Power of Musick" is a life-affirming ode in honor of St. Cecilia and was one of Handel's most popular works during his lifetime. It tells an episode from the courtly world of Alexander the Great: The hero is not, as the title suggests, the ruler himself, but the singer Timotheos, who succeeds in plunging Alexander into a rollercoaster of emotions with his songs. The young ensemble "Nürnberg Barock " performs with the vocal ensemble St. Lorenz and the baroque specialists Marie-Sophie Pollak (soprano) and Christian Rathgeber (tenor) as well as Uwe Schenker-Primus (bass) have been recruited as soloists - both singers are former Windsbach boys.

With his first major choral concert, Lorenzkantor Michael Riedel demonstrates not only his enthusiasm for early music but also his interest in new music: between the two parts of the "Alexanderfest", a world premiere with live-generated electronic music by composer Tobias Tobit Hagedorn will be performed.
