Since 1991, the Slackers have released fifteen albums and countless singles while providing their fans with energetic, ecstatic music at thousands of live performances.
The Slackers have been called "The Sound of New York" by the New York Times. Brooklyn Vegan described them as "a clean blend of ska, reggae and soul, spiced up by Vic Ruggiero's raspy New York accent".
In April 2022, the Slackers released their new album "Don't Let The Sunlight Fool Ya" (Pirates Press), which quickly shot to the top of the US Billboard charts. The first time a Slackers album had ever charted! Ironically, after 30 years as a band, they qualified as "new artists" for Billboard! The Washington Post noted that the Slackers "remain at the top of their game."
The chart-topping "Don't Let The Sunlight Fool Ya" capped a two-year comeback for the Slackers. When Covid shut down their live shows in 2020, the Slackers switched to livestreams, performing 5 full band concerts that were broadcast internationally to thousands of viewers. After the streams, they stayed in the studio and recorded the songs that became "Don't Let the Sunlight Fool Ya".
The Slackers capped off this comeback with a series of frenetic tours in 2022 and 2023, playing everything from clubs to festivals in the US, Canada, Europe and Brazil. They currently have 90 concerts booked for 2024. They are also currently working on a new edition of their classic album "Close My Eyes" for their 20th anniversary in September and a new single with original music in October.
