It's been a proud 20 years since British rock band The Subways secured their entry into the indie rock premier league with a loud bang with their debut album "Young for Eternity". Songs like "Rock'n'Roll Queen" or "Oh Yeah" are still part of every well-curated indie rock playlist today, which only goes to show even more impressively how the band from Hertfordshire managed to achieve a certain legendary status in their early years. And it didn't stop there. In the years that followed, band members Billy Lunn, Charlotte Cooper and Josh Morgan (now replaced by Camille Philips), who were just 18 years old at the time of their debut, worked diligently on their discography and released indie rock albums at a steady pace.
The follow-ups "All Or Nothing" (2008), "Money And Celebrity" (2011) and "The Subways" (2015) continued the band's alternative sound organically and took the band on major live tours through their native UK and far beyond. In 2023, the fifth and latest album "Uncertain Joys" was released with a slightly different band line-up. This year, the trio is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album "Young for Eternity" - with an extensive anniversary tour. The Brits will also be visiting Germany nine times in December.
To accompany the anniversary, The Subways are also releasing "When I'm With You" - a special collection of selected singles and fan favorites from their career to date. At the same time, the band is also looking to the future: with two brand new songs on the compilation "The Subways For Eternity", they are not only celebrating the past, but also their future.
Billy says: "Reaching 20 years in itself is really special for us, because it means we've been doing what we love so deeply for such a long time. But the true test of the joy we've been lucky enough to experience over the last two decades is the friends we've acquired along the way. Seeing faces old and new in the crowds at the shows is everything to us. We'd be nothing without our fans, and we love that The Subways' songs are theirs as much as ours. It is with them that we'd like to celebrate this milestone, and we can't wait to do so properly in the chaos of the mosh pit on the upcoming tour!"
Charlotte adds: "We've been on this wild ride for 20 years now and I've so enjoyed looking back over all the things we've been part of. I've loved it all from the small sweaty gigs to the big festival stages. Seeing the world. Creating albums I'm hugely proud of. Making lasting friendships. We are so excited to celebrate with the fans who have kept us going all this time. Those who have been coming to shows for years; those who are now bringing their children along! We are eternally grateful and we are the luckiest people. See you down the front!"
