The Return of The Sufi Dub Brothers:

What happens when Pakistani sitar virtuoso Ashraf Sharif Khan meets Hamburg producer, sampling master, DJ and Golden Poodle operator Viktor Marek? The floating, transcendent sounds of classical South Asian sitar music are transformed into extremely danceable club sounds and we first have to find categories to categorize the whole thing. With the release of their first album "Sufi Dub Brothers" (2020), the two coined the term Sufistep, referring to the equal meeting of modern British bass music, hip-hop, acid, electronica and classical music from South Asia.

Now they're back: over the last few years, Ashraf Sharif Khan & Viktor Marek have built a solid career based on the sheer power of their incredible and incredibly entertaining live sets. The time is therefore ripe for "The Return of The Sufi Dub Brothers". Their new album, whose title is a nod to both the late Lee Scratch Perry and forgotten superhero franchises, will be released on September 5, 2025 via Fun In The Church, after which Ashraf and Viktor will embark on their first extensive tour of Germany and Europe.

Ashraf Sharif Khan: The unrivaled sitar virtuoso is considered a "national treasure" in Pakistan, but prefers a quiet life in a suburb of Hamburg. He is the son and student of Pakistan's legendary sitar maestro, the late Ustad Muhammad Sharif Khan Poonchwale, and comes from the famous Poonch Gharana of classical sitar playing. Over the past two decades, Ashraf has represented Pakistan as a cultural ambassador at various major international music festivals abroad, transcending regional boundaries and earning admiration for his country.

Viktor Marek: A globetrotting producer, sampling wizard and DJ, Marek is the manager of the infamous Golden Pudel Club in St. Pauli and is known for his involvement in projects such as The Kings of Dubrock, 8 Doogymoto and, more recently, his production work for West African artists such as Patrick Kabré and Les Soeurs Doga.
