"The Yark" is a gruesomely beautiful story written by author Bertrand Santini in 2014. The Yark is a terrible monster that likes to eat small children. But only the good children are edible for the monster; the naughty and nasty ones don't suit him at all. And therein lies the problem: it used to be enough to simply disguise yourself as a grandmother if you wanted to eat a child. But nowadays, the Yark has to come up with something if he doesn't want to die of hunger. The model boys on his wish list are too clever. They set traps for him and make fun of him. Finally, he meets a very special girl. Madeleine is the first person who doesn't judge him by his hideous looks. This puts Yark in an extremely difficult situation.

In Ralf Wagner's set design and with the unmistakable figures of artist Mechthild Nienaber, the shaggy monster with the long teeth comes to life so vividly that you still dream about him at night. Theater Zitadelle/Anna Rampe tells of the eternal battle between good and evil, peppered with satirical side-swipes, full of the joy of horror and deep love. In the end, the question is whether there is another way.
