In MONGA , Jéssica Teixeira shines a harsh spotlight on the brutality that society's ideas of normality exert on bodies. Based on the story of Julia Pastrana, a multi-talented Mexican artist who was cruelly exploited in the freak shows of the 19th century and found no peace even in death, she creates a mosaic of philosophical reflection, rousing songs and radical performance art. In the glare of the disco ball, she invites us to distinguish myth from truth and thus not to repeat the past.

Jéssica Teixeira is a multi-artist based in Fortaleza, Brazil. Her artistic practice is strongly influenced by her engagement with her own body, which she uses as an instrument for critical reflection and a means of political resistance. In 2025, Jéssica Teixeira was awarded the most prestigious Brazilian theater prize in the Best Director category for her work MONGA.
