THIS IS BALLROOM

This lively documentary by Juru and Vitã takes us through the vibrant ballroom culture of Rio de Janeiro. Through the influence of the Afro and Latin American LGBTQAI+ subculture of the USA, where Ballroom originated, and Brazilian elements from various regions, a cultural cuvée has developed that continues to mature like a fine wine. There, dance, music, fashion and performance intertwine and lead to a kind of catharsis for marginalized queer and racialized communities.

THIS IS BALLROOM won the Diversity Film Award at the Africa Film Festival Cologne 2024.
