Where does the human inability to learn from past mistakes come from?
In his new program, which bears the title of his audio biography, Thomas Freitag tries to find an answer to this question by playing, reading and telling stories.
Dealing with the past opens up a view of the future. It quickly becomes clear that the undesirable political developments were recognizable early on, but nothing or too little was done about them. So Thomas Freitag takes stock and looks ahead at the same time.
His quintessence is a very personal one, as he has played a decisive role in writing the history of German cabaret. He has parodistically brought four chancellors to their knees and when Angela Merkel packs her bags in the chancellery, he is guaranteed to still be on stage. Whether it's the Nato Double-Track Decision, the fall of the Berlin Wall or 9/11, Thomas Freitag has the right cabaret commentary on everything.
He also faces up to self-criticism with a comedic eye and a clear attitude. After all, what exactly went wrong if you wanted to prevent Franz-Josef Strauß and ended up having to look Donald Trump in the eye?
HINTER UNS DIE ZUKUNFT is a fast-paced mixture of sharp-tongued topicality, biographical bon mots and tried-and-tested numbers. It is his 18th solo program and by far his most personal. And as one of the few in his profession, he still manages to draw hope for tomorrow from his personal experiences.
