What do we give a man who really has everything (including the Nobel Prize for Literature) for his special day? - A reunion with his favorite people! Just in time for Thomas Mann's 150th birthday, SOMMER'S WORLD LITERATURE TO GO conjures up the complete works of the great poet (almost in their entirety) on the stage of Munich's Volkstheater. Yes, there is plenty of entertaining downfall (merchant families, poets, the Occident), very frequent school readings, the fight for democracy (from exile) and the finest ironic wit throughout with a number of adorable jesters (from Pharaoh's advisor to impostors). A charming musical setting and genuine audience participation ensure atmosphere and exchange, because of course engaging with literature is not a one-way street, but a team sport.

Is it really possible to perform Mann's complete works in a single evening? And if so, how big should the cast be? Our answer: 7.5 cm.

Michael Sommer and his PLAYMOBIL ensemble have been experts in providing the most concise and entertaining summaries of literary classics since 2015. On the YouTube channel SOMMERS WELTLITERATUR TO GO, they present a work of world literature in ten minutes once a week. This is met with great interest from teachers and students as well as the general public (over 39 million views). His work was honored with a Grimme Online Award in the "Culture and Education" category in June 2018.
