NRW Premiere of Interrupting The Thrill of Exactitude
Amelia Uzategui Bonilla/T.I.A. dance productions
Imagine a person in a ballet or contemporary dance piece.
Are you thinking of a non-white person?
A dancer who is not very thin?
A disabled person?
Whatspaces can emerge when we break away from normative ideas?
The mixed abled team T.I.A. dance , led by choreographer Amelia Uzategui Bonilla, both critically and lovingly interrupts the "thrill of exactitude", the thrill of perfection.
Instead of just showing beautiful, precisely executed turns likethe choreographer William Forsythe, they also ask whether dance is more than just what we see.
With cumbia and reggaeton, queer poetry of tenderness, playful dance battles and gamesof tag, they try out moments of resistance.
Together, the blind, visually impaired and sighted artists of T.I.A. dance create a musical and poetic space that invites everyone toexperience dance in its many facets with expanded senses .

Picture description:
There are 8 people in this picture. They are standing slightly apart from each other. They are pulling at each other and some are in a fighting stance. One person in the middle is trying to pull them all apart. The expressions on their faces seem surprised, overwhelmedand helpless. There is a lot of dramatic energy in the room and it is palpable that everyone is surprised by this moment. It's unclear whether they want to dance or fight with each other. They are wearing T-shirts with the words: "Interrupter", "Stop it" or "One moment, please". Who are these people? What is their political stance, what pronouns do they use? How do they talk about race, class, gender? Today we leave you with more questions than answers, but rest assured, even the sighted people won't get it right at first glance.
