TINGVALL TRIO | Eckhard Meszelinksy & Noise Adventures

In the organizer's words:

In Concert

The Tingvall Trio celebrated its twentieth anniversary in 2023. What is particularly remarkable is that the trio has always played with the same line-up from the time it was founded until this ninth album, BIRDS. In addition to the pianist and namesake Martin Tingvallam piano, there is Omar Rodriguez Calvoam double bass and Jürgen Spiegel, who is responsible for drums and percussion. And the three Hamburg-based musicians have managed to write a success story in these many years that is second to none: several ECHO JAZZ Awards as Ensemble and Live Act of the Year, a total of six JAZZ Awards in Gold, two Impala Awards for international sales, a whole series of No.1 Jazz Chart albums and four high rankings in the German Top 100 Album Charts - in German jazz this can certainly be described as outstanding. With BIRDS, this development has now reached its temporary climax.

Martin Tingvall explains the title: "The album BIRDS is dedicated to the birds. They are the musicians of nature. They surround us with their music every day and can be incredibly inspiring. You just have to listen carefully. Unfortunately, we often don't seem to do that anymore, too many other sounds surround us and we get distracted. I hope this album can inspire us to perceive the environment around us differently. I myself can already observe changes in the behavior of birds caused by global warming. SOS, it's high time to stop, listen to nature and take action. "As always, Martin Tingvall is responsible for all the compositions, but the pieces were arranged and played by the trio together in rehearsals and concerts until they were ready for recording. And of course, the album once again features catchy tunes such as Woodpecker, Hummingbird and Air Guitar. Wonderful ballads such as The Day After with a bowed double bass by Omar Rodriguez Calvo alternate with pieces such as Africa, whose lightness of touch is immediately catchy. SOS, the cry for help to finally give our planet a perspective for survival, offers a virtuosoTingvall Trio sound and a touching composition. With his solo piece Call For Peace, Martin Tingvall contributes a particularly introverted moment.

For 20 years, the man with the hat shaped the Leverkusen Jazz Days as festival director. Eckhard Meszelinsky now performs on stage himself as a saxophonist and has started a project called Noise Adventures, which carefully combines art rock, avant-garde jazz and world music.

Eckhard Meszelinsky still wears his hat - but he has changed his perspective. He no longer ensures that musicians from all over the world play on Leverkusen's stages, but stands on one himself.
