Tobias Meinhart, described as "Germany's greatest saxophone talent" (JazzThing), has established himself as one of the leading voices in contemporary jazz. He was voted Rising Star (saxophone) in DownBeat magazine's Critics Poll in both 2023 and 2024. He has lived in New York for 15 years and regularly commutes between the Big Apple and Berlin - two cities where jazz is deeply embedded in daily life and inspires a young audience. With his latest project BERLIN PEOPLE, Meinhart brings this energy to the stage, creating compositions that highlight the unique strengths of his band members and combine the spirit of New York's innovative jazz scene with Berlin's creative openness.

The quartet brings together some of Germany's most exciting young jazz musicians: Ludwig Hornung (piano), Tom Berkmann (bass) and Mathias Ruppnig (drums). Their sound combines powerful unison lines, playful and atmospheric moments and an electrifying energy that makes every performance a dynamic experience.

Their debut album, released in 2019 on Sunnyside Records, reached the first round of the Grammy Awards, and since then BERLIN PEOPLE have toured internationally and performed at festivals such as the Jarasum Jazz Festival (South Korea), the Mexico City Jazz Festival and the Kolkata Jazz Festival (India). A highlight was being selected to represent German jazz at Jazzahead! and in 2024 the group received the prestigious Hi Five Award. With their upcoming album Sonic River (Spring 2025), the band is embarking on an extensive European tour, further establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with in today's jazz landscape.
