Ton und Kirschen Wandertheater: ES WAR EINMAL und war auch nicht…

In the organizer's words:

IT WAS ONCE and it wasn't...

The origins of most fairy tales go back thousands of years. They have been passed down from generation to generation and, in all their simplicity, are rich in fantasy, violence, rough justice and wonder. Fairy tales are linked to the childhood and personal memories of each and every one of us. This is how Heinrich Heine remembers his childhood in Deutschland. A Winter's Tale of his nurse, who told him about the goose maid and the talking horse's head.
It is a comforting pleasure to hear the same fairy tale over and over again, magically leading us to a happy ending. Ton und Kirschen aims to use drama, music, dance, puppetry and masks to turn the magic, but also the warnings that lie in fairy tales, into a shared experience with the audience, in which the imagination of each individual spectator is given space. And - even what is not said has meaning.

Sound and Cherries Theater
The Ton und Kirschen Theater was founded by Margarete Biereye and David Johnston in May 1992 in Glindow (near Potsdam) after 20 years of theater experience with the English Footsbarn Travelling Theatre. The theater rehearsals take place on a property in the Glindow district. The stage set is built here, and props, costumes, masks and puppets are also made there. From here, Ton und Kirschen takes its productions all over the state of Brandenburg. We install our stage and grandstand at the various venues. Every year we give guest performances in Potsdam and Berlin and in other German cities. We have also often been invited to theater festivals abroad. We have performed in many countries (Ireland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Russia, Belgium, Italy, Austria and Switzerland and repeatedly in France) and on various continents (Asia, North Africa and several times in South America).

The current 7-member ensemble of the theater comes from Germany, England, Wales, France and Colombia. Under the artistic direction of David Johnston and Margarete Biereye, 26 productions have been created.
