Towards a Poetic Abstraction: Expressing Form Through Language - Workshop mit Tomi Seyi Laja

This workshop focuses on the question of how the sensual and formal experience of an object can be put into words. Design, sculpture, imagination and language will be combined in a joint exploration of the poetic. Based on an architectural and sculptural work that activates and communicates its interior and exterior space through a minimalist but precise language, the participants will develop their own approaches to describing from and materiality under the guidance of the American architectural designer Tomi Seyi Laja. In a series of practical exercises, collages and short texts will be created that interweave perception, thought and design.

The workshop is part of the event series "Thinking & Working with Design".

The workshop will be held in English. Own texts can also be written in German.

Tomi Seyi Laja is a Nigerian American architectural designer, artist, and essayist currently based in Berlin, by way of Chicago. Working with sculpture, installation, drawing, and writing, her research-based practice prioritizes poetics to explore spatial themes on form, agency, and sensuality. She works on personal and commissioned projects worldwide. Her body of art-architecture-essayistic works are forming quiet architectonics for rest and listening, referencing thought by Darell Fields, Sylvia Wynter, and Edouard Glissant.
