TURNS x EFFEKTE Edition: PULSING, ACHING, EXERCISING

As part of the EFFEKTE science festival, we are collaborating with the Karlsruhe University of Music to influence our well-being with body feedback systems. With the concert "PULSING, ACHING, EXERCISING" we explore how rhythm, frequencies and vibrations stimulate us.

How do sounds get under our skin and shape our well-being?
The ZKM | Hertzlab and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe are addressing this question. In a series of extraordinary performances, seeing, hearing and feeling merge into a multi-sensory experience that interweaves science and music research.

Students dive deep into the effects of rhythms, frequencies and vibrations - and investigate how sound can influence our perception, our feelings and even our health. Using innovative body feedback systems, the audience is invited to experience themselves as a sounding resonance chamber - and to discover the finest movements and sensations as music.

The ZKM | Hertzlab brings together students from the fields of percussion, music education, computer music and body interfaces in an interdisciplinary project. The performance is part of the ZKM series TURNS: SOUNDING OUT HEALTH - a living laboratory for the future of sound and health.

Each of the thematic cycles of "TURNS" - SOUNDING CYCLES (February-April 2025), SOUNDING OUT HEALTH (May-August 2025) and SOUNDING OUT CONNECTION (September-December 2025) - is a thematic impulse that opens up transformative perspectives on sound.
