Uyghur is one of the 27 Turkic languages in existence today, and its written culture dates back to the 7th century. The "Dictionary of Turkic Languages" and the famous didactic work "Qutadghu Bilig" were written in Uyghur as early as the 11th century. Today, the Uyghur language is facing a massive sinicization strategy by the Chinese Communist Party. In recent decades, Munich has become an important political center for the Uyghurs, who are fighting to preserve their linguistic and cultural rights.

On the evening, linguist Dr. Ablet Semet will give a comprehensive overview of the history and development of modern Uyghur and its relationship to other languages in East Turkistan. Using excerpts from historical and modern texts, he will undertake a "language journey" from Asia to Europe and explain the global and political conditions for the preservation of the Uyghur language.

After the lecture, musicians Nurgül Ruze and Zumrad Ibrayem will perform various songs in the Uyghur language: "Uyghur Kizi" (Uyghur daughter), "Hijran" (longing) and "Korkem Tengritaghliri" (the huge Tengritagh mountains).
