UNAPOLOGETIC: born to shine
Am I beautiful and does it even matter?
A dance piece about beauty norms, pop culture and queer self-empowerment. The piece shows how ideals of beauty influence our queer self-image and our (self-)presentation. These norms are often used to exclude certain groups.
The dancers explore the topic in two ways: from the outside through clothing and self-presentation, and from the inside through their personal approach to their own bodies. Gradually, these perspectives merge. The dancers shed external expectations and show themselves as they really are - honest, vulnerable and self-determined.
The queer teenagers and young adults rehearsed weekly for six months under the guidance of queer professional stage performers - discussing the subject matter, learning various movement tools and developing choreographies. There was a group of amateur dancers in each of the cities of Basel, Zurich, Bern and Lucerne who rehearsed separately and then came together for the intensive rehearsal week in the form of a camp in August. During this week, all the amateur dancers from all the cities got to know each other and the various elements they had worked on were put together to form a piece. In the 50-minute piece, queer amateur dancers dance together with professional performers and form an ensemble of 38 people in total.
The project was created in collaboration between the FLUX crew company and the lila. queer festival. We celebrated the premiere at the lila. queer festival in September 2024.

What is the climate impact ticket?
In cooperation with the PATHOS theater, we would like to take responsibility for the climate impact costs of theater operations together with our audience and thus set an example for a fair pricing policy.
The €2 or €4 surcharge on the ticket price will go 100% to the Climate Fair project, which promotes social and ecological transformation in Germany and here in Munich (e.g. through the construction of solar systems, green roofs and energy-saving projects).
You can find detailed information on the Pathos homepage.
