In the "Open Summer" the Unibigband Leipzig plays a free concert for all party-loving people who love the sound of a big band. Chilling out to good music on the MB, what could be better?

The Unibigband Leipzig has been enriching the musical diversity in the trade fair city of Leipzig for 38 semesters. The ensemble has made a name for itself with numerous performances in Leipzig and its own concert series "Hörsaal-Konzerte". This means that university music, which can look back on a long tradition, also plays a not inconsiderable part in Leipzig's jazz scene.

Since its foundation in 2006, the student big band has already won four prizes at the international big band festival "Swingin' Saxonia" in Hohenstein-Ernstthal.

In 2016, they won 1st prize at the German Orchestra Competition in Ulm. A concert also took the young musicians to the renowned Jazztage festival in Görlitz. In spring 2012 and 2018, they also accepted an invitation to Costa Rica for the "Festival Internacional de las Artes". The 20-strong band consists mainly of students from a wide range of disciplines and impresses audiences with its musical standards. Under the direction of Leipzig saxophonist Reiko Brockelt, they play swing standards, Latin jazz and modern jazz compositions, some of which were composed especially for the band.
