Cinema Iran - 10th Iranian Film Festival Munich 2025:
Venue: Projector, first floor
A declaration of love to Iranian cinema: With "Universal Language", Canadian director Matthew Rankin has created an enchanting, humorous, surreal feature film set in the snowy Canadian city of Winnipeg. Everyone there speaks Persian. Instead of a culture clash, a fusion of cultures leads to surprising insights into the perception, history and identity of post-migrant societies. The film repeatedly references Abbas Kiarostami's cinema in aesthetically composed scenes.
CA 2024, 89 min., French/Farsi with English subtitles. Director: Matthew Rankin
