from xarpêt to hanover to dêrsim and kucax through the euphrates and tigris through the leine and ihme through the spree the isar and themse through all the spots of this earth where i stayed where i stayed silence draws its paths the search for language draws its routes on the paths lie either stones and asphalt from word-inadequacies to describe anything or gaps flow in them in all directions until the gaps become holes until the empty spaces fill all the sentences and no more letters can be found along the roadside on the bank.
We all encounter the search for the right words, whether in personal conversations, in public or when talking about political issues. Dîlan Z. Çapan approaches these questions from her perspective as a writer and director, posing both universal and particular questions about language and the limits of what can be said: How does one describe disasters whose effects cannot actually be captured with language? What does it mean to miss a language that you were born with?
The evening will be accompanied by the musician Dîlan Top. The questions and feelings that Dîlan Z. Çapan deals with in her text resonate in Kurdish music. Many of these questions concern Kurds in particular: due to global oppression and the partial denial of their identity. Nevertheless, or precisely because of this, Kurdish culture, especially its music and dances as its most important forms of expression, is very much alive. So this evening is not least about the transformative power that emanates from the longing to express oneself, and about resilience and joy, no matter how sobering the circumstances.
Between language and silence, music and video, dialoge der sprachlosigkeit approaches the limits of what can be said and invites the audience to give space to their thoughts and feelings in language, music and in-between. A poetic evening about searching for and missing language.
