Poet, activist and spoken word artist Ursula Rucker and guitarist Tim Motzer are two artists who have been working together in different constellations for many years. Both are epic on their own, together they are a force of nature. On their Begin Anew Tour '24, they bring an electrifying mix of sounds in which all genres collide. House, hip-hop, electronica and jazz (to name a few...) combine with the poetry of Ursula Rucker and her rich, accented voice, arguably one of the greatest and most beautiful living instruments in the world. The tour program includes new works, classic tracks from Ursula's records as well as songs from her numerous collaborations with artists such as 4Hero, The Roots, King Britt, Hannes Bieger, Charles Webster and many others.
For nearly three decades, Rucker has been captivating audiences around the world with her stirring imagery. Raised in a suburb of Philadelphia, she began performing at open mice sessions in her twenties. Her international breakthrough came in 1994 when she sang the lead vocals for the classic "Supernatural" by King Britt and his Firefly project. Her debut album "Supa Sista" (2021) reached a wide audience and, like all her solo albums, is bursting with power and musical diversity. With her style, which combines poetry and politics with Philly soul, jazz, hip-hop and electronica, she packs complex relationships into accessible images without ever coming across as preachy. Her lyrics float above it all, the music gives the words wings and the clear beauty of her voice transports the message into our hearts.
