Vadym Pogorilyy Quintett

In the organizer's words:

The Vadym Pogorilyy Quintet is a project by a talented trumpeter and composer from Ukraine, who is accompanied by four wonderful German musicians: Tony Lakatos on tenor saxophone, Clemens Orth on piano, Stefan Rey on double bass and Dominik Raab on drums.

The quintet's music is a perfect blend of American and European jazz. The rhythm is the basis of jazz and brings movement and energy into the room, while the melodies convey moods and emotions. With a palpable groove and swing, the tunes offer a listening pleasure that can be easily appreciated by both a sophisticated jazz connoisseur and a simple music lover. The musicians not only play for themselves, but also take great pleasure in communicating and improvising live to delight the audience.
The quintet's repertoire includes jazz ballads, hard bop, swing, Latina, fusion and jazz standards. Each composition is a reaction to particular life events and experiences. Sometimes these events are cheerful and full of happy moments, sometimes sad, which can then be reflected in a jazz ballad, for example.

Vadym Pogorilyy was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, into a family with rich musical traditions. At the age of 9, his love of music led him to join the boys' choir of the Kharkiv Opera House. He performed in opera performances and choral concerts not only in Ukraine, but also in other countries. At the age of 10 he began to learn the trumpet at a music school. He improved his trumpet playing during his further studies at the Kharkiv State Music Lyceum
and then at the Kharkov Academy of Music. In 2004 he received his Master's degree from the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture. Already during his studies at the Academy, he became actively involved in the city's musical life - he started playing in a big band, took part in jazz student projects, and was interested in and experimented with jazz and classical music for the new sound of the trumpet in modern directions: Rap, R&B and dance music.
After graduating, he teaches at the Kharkov Higher College of Arts.
