What does freedom mean to you? This question may seem obvious at first glance, but the answers can be many and varied. Freedom can have as many faces as the people who talk about it. Where does freedom take place? Does it require a specific place? And where does it perhaps reach its limits?
In the Values Lead, Future Follows - Freedomproject , young people have explored these questions in depth and immersed themselves in different realities of life. In encounters with mentors from different areas of society, the young people were able to experience new perspectives on the topic of freedom. For one day, they accompanied designers, founders of start-ups and techno clubs as well as museum directors in their professional roles and got to know them on a very personal level.
By discussing what freedom means to them, it becomes clear that the topic is inextricably linked to their own experiences and convictions. This opens up deep insights into personal motives and values. To make the discourse on values more tangible, we link these convictions to concrete objects. This makes the immaterial more vivid and understandable. What makes a crocheted wool bag or a dusty tile from the cellar a symbol of freedom becomes clear in the conversations between the young people and their mentors.
Audio installations curated by the young people themselves bring their individual perceptions and perspectives on freedom to life and invite them to reflect on their own understanding of freedom. The multimedia exhibition, which will celebrate a three-day opening at the betterplace Umspannwerk in October, offers numerous other activities in addition to the centerpiece of the audio installations, inviting visitors to participate, reflect and experience freedom.
