VATERMAL is a family story, and it is the story of an absent father.
Arda is in intensive care, time is running out for him - the diagnosis is organ failure. His mother and sister have not spoken a word to each other for ten years. And now they meet every day in hospital, with Arda in between. He himself writes a farewell letter to his father Metin, whom he has never met. He wants Metin to know everything about the life of his broken family in Germany, which he left to return to Turkey. Arda has many questions for the man with whom he has nothing in common except a black mark under his left eye - his "father's mark".

In his acclaimed debut novel, Necati Öziri creates a multi-generational, post-migrant family story in which mother, daughter and son try to overcome losses and find their own place in Germany - even without a passport.

Following DSCHINNS by Fatma Aydemir and SOLINGEN 1993 at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, for which Bassam Ghazi received the German theater prize DER FAUST, the director brings VATERMAL to the stage at Schauspiel Köln with people from urban society and their biographical stories.
