SomoS Arts is pleased to present Venus Without Furs - a poetry reading and artist talk with Australian poet, performer and current SomoS artist-in-residence Gabrielle Everall.

Everall brings her incisive, fearless lyrical voice to Berlin, reading from her latest poetry collection Venus Without Furs - a provocative, feminist reinterpretation of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's infamous work Venus with Furs. In her version, told from the perspective of "Severin as a she", she confronts the patriarchy with wit, anger and radical honesty. The book is also an act of rebellion - it subverts the masochistic ideal of submission and exposes the tension between desire, power and self-determination.

The evening will include selected readings from Venus Without Furs as well as recent works created at SomoS Arts. This will be followed by an artist talk, moderated by Berlin-based curator and cultural researcher Daisy Nikoloska. Everall will talk about her approach to lyrical voice, trauma as text and feminist rebellion through language. The event will offer an intense, electrifying insight into femininity, queerness and psychological resistance. Visitors are invited to encounter a literary voice that consistently refuses to be silenced.
