We move through the city every day - on foot, by bike, by car, by bus and train. Some routes we take every day, others are completely new to us. Basically, the countless routes through the city are a remarkable performance of movement by many.
However, this is not without its problems: many routes are far too inconvenient, others are even dangerous. And then there is the impact of traffic on the environment. For children and families in particular, daily journeys through the city are a major challenge. But they rarely get a say in traffic planning!
What if we used the theater not to explain the traffic rules, but to think about road traffic in a completely different way? Other movements, other vehicles, other rules?
With these questions in mind, we went to elementary school in Hamburg for workshops and used the results to develop performative test routes in city traffic around the FUNDUS Theater/Forschungstheater. On foot and by train, dancing and playing, loud and quiet, above and below ground, we tested what happens when theater and city traffic meet: Does this reveal new possibilities for urban transportation?
