Vernissage der Ausstellung EIGENMACHT statt Eingemacht von Petra Genster

In the organizer's words:

The exhibition EIGENMACHT statt eingemacht by Petra Genster revolves around the aspects of femininity, empowerment in one's own being and ecological responsibility. The vernissage on April 6 at 2 p.m. will be opened with a speech by Ellen Junger.

Her art is clearly feminist. That is why the Women's Museum is the venue for this exhibition.

The title-giving floor installation of around 50 preserving jars with boiled tomatoes refers to the famous tomato throw at the end of the 1960s. It triggered the second wave of the women's movement.

The subtitle of the exhibition refers precisely to that event:
Do I still have to throw tomatoes?

The material of the installations and objects are household items, clothes, textiles and yarns.
yarns. Petra Genster embroiders, sews, cooks and places everyday things and activities at the center of her art. The bowl is a recurring motif in her installations and paintings.
The large-format, intensely colored oil paintings revolve around the element of water. Sometimes mountains emerge from the water, not concrete, but rather archaic images of the soul.
The installation The Expansive Power of Water, made from used blue clothing, takes up an entire room in the exhibition. First shown in 2017 for the COP23 world climate summit in Bonn, it poses the question: AND NOW??? in view of the COP30 2025 in Bélem.

Petra Genster's art is socio-politically oriented. At the same time, she offers a cheerful and trusting encounter with life through her intensity of color and playfulness.
The accompanying program is a network of different arts and invites visitors to a variety of encounters and exchanges.
