Vernissage der Fotoausstellung "Komorebi" im Rahmen des Fotofestivals OFF FOTO 2025

"Komorebi" - sunlight falling through leaves. As part of the OFF FOTO 2025 photo festival

Inspired by the Japanese term, six artists from GEDOK Heidelberg - Julia Asfour, Elsa Becke, Hildegard Illies, Petra Lindenmeyer, Susanne Ochs and Anette Riebel-Mehne - have dedicated an exhibition to this theme.

Each artist pursues her own approach to capturing, interpreting and bringing to life the fleeting aesthetics of sunlight using photographic means. "Komorebi" describes the alternation of light and shadow, a fleeting natural spectacle that occurs thousands of times every day, yet is unique each time and creates fascinating images. At the same time, "Komorebi" opens up a deep emotional level of meaning, inviting us to reflect on our attitude towards life. The aesthetics of the sunlight falling through the leaves are to be felt with the heart. For a fleeting moment, these light effects capture the beauty of a world that all too often presents itself to us as gray. Light, shadow and surroundings merge into a perfect unity that we can feel at our core. "Komorebi" - the magic of a moment: a pause in everyday life, a grasp of the world with all our senses. The GEDOK artists translate this feeling of happiness, which is difficult to grasp with words, into pictures. Each has found individual forms of representation: From informal, atmospheric images and minimalist, condensed photographs to embroidered photographs, miniature photographs, abstractions and interpretations of old analog materials.
