Vernissage Margrit Schweicher | Gefeiert-Ignoriert-Vergessen: Die Tragik ihrer Generation

We cordially invite you to the vernissage of our new exhibition "Margrit Schweicher | Celebrated - Ignored - Forgotten: The tragedy of her generation"! The opening will take place on Sunday, August 3, at 3 pm on the 2nd floor and includes the premiere of the film by Georg Divossen at 4 pm. Dr. Irene Pigulla, the artist's daughter, will also be present at the film premiere. In addition, our director Marianne Pitzen will welcome the audience and Christina zu Mecklenburg will introduce the film.

Margrit Schweicher is one of the many women who had to severely restrict their artistic activities due to their role as mother and wife - her daughter Dr. Irene Pigulla sees her father as being too attached to the family and role model of the time. In the 1950s and 1960s, many women, like Margrit Schweicher, experienced social and institutional discrimination in the male-dominated art scene, against which they had to stand their ground.

Despite this, Margrit Schweicher continued to draw and created powerful portraits and still lifes. Her works are characterized by a space composed of lines and surfaces, as well as sculptural clarity and architectural density.
