Vernissage Sabrina Türschmann & Leonie Fößel

In the organizer's words:

The Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos burned down five years ago. Since then, the situation of the refugees has largely disappeared from public reporting. But what is the situation on the ground today?

The exhibition "We are still here - at the end of Europe" tells the stories of some of the refugees living in the current Mavrovouni camp. Europe's external borders are defended like a fortress by Frontex and national coastguards. Refugees continue to face systematic harassment - so-called push-backs occur almost daily.

In February 2025, photographer Sabrina Türschmann and journalist Leonie Fößel traveled to Lesbos to document the current situation. The people they met and who welcomed them into their tents and containers are portrayed in this exhibition. Because they are far more than just their residence status: they are people who have experienced terrible things - and still carry on. They laugh, they cry, they share their stories.

There is also a special focus on the work of physiotherapist Fabiola Velasquez, whose organization Earth Medicine supports and provides medical care to people with physical limitations, injuries and disabilities in the Mavrovouni camp. She founded Earth Medicine to enable refugees - whether still on the run or already arrived - to receive dignified medical treatment.

The exhibition is accompanied by poems and texts by Afghan author Abdullah Qasimi.
