GROUP EXHIBITION: OBSERVING SYSTEMS - Observing and being observed (Axel Obinger, Berlin, guest at GEH8)
Observing systems are systems that systematically and purposefully gather basic or supplementary knowledge. Often working covertly, they can be both human and technical in nature. The processes, numerous forms and results that reveal themselves in the process of observation are the starting point for many social and philosophical questions that the artists of the Berlin project space Axel Obiger deal with in very different ways.
The ambiguity of the term between the systematic nature of observation, the process of observation itself and being observed is at the center of the artistic explorations:
Is the observer of a system a part of it or even its embodiment? Or does he/she stand outside the system and can analyze and make decisions without being influenced? What space do voids between body and embodiment occupy in the information age, what inscribed roles and patterns can emerge in this process and how are these formed? What happens when systems are combined with each other and how do such systems actually work? - These are just some of the questions addressed by the artists in the exhibition.
Axel Obiger Berlin was founded in 2009 and sees itself as a platform for socially relevant issues and their reflection in artistic works, projects and actions. In addition to monthly changing duo and curated group exhibitions, collaboration and artistic exchange with various project spaces in Germany and abroad is also an essential component.
The group exhibition OBSERVING SYSTEMS is the first part of a collaboration between Axel Obiger Berlin and artists from GEH 8. It thematically refers to the annual theme of GEH8: We are all in this together. A second exchange will follow in Berlin.
