This time, ambitious Balkan film culture is on the VideÖclub program. An Italian-Yugoslavian adaptation of a novel will be shown, which revolves around the question of the freedom of art and its censorship under totalitarianism:
The writing guild of "engineers of souls" must have their works regularly checked by a party committee to ensure that they conform to the party line. After the protagonist's latest play is to be censored, the devil himself comes to the rescue with his henchmen. Parallel to a vendetta against the censors, a passionate affair develops.
And where does the journey end? In poverty under a professional ban? In a penal camp? In a mental hospital? In exile? Can the love affair survive under these adverse circumstances? Come along and see for yourself!
What is the VideÖclub?
The open VideÖclub is not a movie theater, but an experiment to gather a more or less loose community of film enthusiasts in Köşk, who discuss the screening they have just seen over a drink and also provide input for follow-up VideÖclubs. The evening is curated, but there is always interest in suggestions. The VideÖclub is non-commercial, Free admission and drinks are available at cost price. However, donations to cover expenses are very welcome!
