"Live diversity! Now more than ever!" is the motto of the CSD Culture Weeks 2024, which strengthen social diversity, making it visible and tangible. In keeping with this, the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film will be showing a short film program at the ITFS Animation Special in July in cooperation with Stuttgart PRIDE:

Ten films, ten stories about the search for identity and one's place in society: the films shed light on topics such as diversity, racism, exclusion, love, affection and community. Diverse: not only the artistic animation, but also the lived experiences.

Four women talk about their first love. They tell funny and intimate stories of one-sided infatuation, mutual attraction, erotic experiences and awkward attempts at sexual expression. For them, the discovery that they are attracted to other women goes hand in hand with a deeper understanding of their personal identity and an exhilarating new self-awareness.

Dawn in the red light district of a Spanish city. Someone who earns a living here goes home, sits in front of the mirror, removes his make-up, changes his clothes and reviews the events of the night. This is accompanied by a medieval tune "¿Con qué la lavaré?", a lament once sung in four voices by single women. An animated homage to homosexual artists of the late 1970s, shortly after the end of the Franco dictatorship.

In "I Love Hooligans", we immerse ourselves in the world of a homosexual hooligan. He lives for soccer and feels unconditional love for his club. His homosexuality is a well-kept secret. The game, the skill of the players, the camaraderie, the rhythm of the noise from the stands: he is completely absorbed in it. This is his world, his life. Every bad foul is met with boos: "Faggot. Faggot." He shouts as loud as the fans, knowing full well that he's putting on a show. It's his survival strategy.

A pair of lovers move through a dreamlike and dystopian Beirut to the music of Mashrou' Leila. Their attempts to embrace and kiss fail. A tender and bitter metaphor for a city and a world in which numerous love relationships remain forbidden due to homophobia, xenophobia and all forms of racism.
