The Kunsthalle München is showing the first major retrospective of the Dutch designer duo Viktor&Rolf in Germany. Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have been exploring the boundaries between couture and art with breathtaking virtuosity for over 30 years. Their masterpieces have been worn by artists such as Madonna, Tilda Swinton, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat and Cardi B, as well as staged in ballet productions and an opera directed by Robert Wilson. Around 100 of the boldest pieces by the visionary and passionate duo are now being brought to life in a spectacular production. Many of the creations are being exhibited for the first time - together with numerous videos, sketches and handmade porcelain dolls dressed in the designers' iconic creations, as well as works by renowned photo artists such as Andreas Gursky, Ellen von Unwerth and Herb Ritts.
The exhibition was developed in collaboration with Thierry-Maxime Loriot, who has already created the sensational shows Jean Paul Gaultier. From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk (2015), Peter Lindbergh. From Fashion to Reality (2017) and Thierry Mugler. Couturissime (2020/21) curated.
Viktor&Rolf. Fashion Statements was organized by Kunsthalle München and curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot in collaboration with Maison Viktor&Rolf and L'Oréal Luxe.
