In addition to the majority of his instrumental music, Antonio Vivaldi also composed numerous sacred works for the Ospedale della Pietà. The composer was closely associated with this charitable Venetian institution for orphans for decades from 1703. At the same time, as impresario, he was also part of the flourishing opera business in the lagoon city. With "Viva Vivaldi", Alois Mühlbacher and the Ensemble Pallidor shed light on these two aspects. At the center is the furiously virtuoso psalm setting "Nisi Dominus", which is a firework display of contrasting emotions and moods. It offers the former soprano soloist of the St. Florian Boys' Choir the opportunity to let his flexible and nuanced countertenor shine. In addition, Alois Mühlbacher can bring out a wide range of timbres with his unmistakable voice in selected opera arias by Vivaldi. The Ensemble Pallidor completes the program with a selection of virtuoso instrumental concertos, making it clear once again why Venice's fame as a city of music is still so closely associated with the name Vivaldi.
