voiceXchange #11: Barock & Beatbox Reloaded

Club atmosphere instead of a classical concert hall: in the new "voiceXchange" concert series, singers from the NDR Vokalensemble bring a cappella music to Hamburg clubs and other alternative venues.

B for beatboxing and baroque music
Daniel Mandolini, multiple German champion, European champion and world vice-champion in beatboxing, joins the NDR Vokalensemble and voiceXchange: classical vocal movements are sampled live, covered, underlaid with beats - and gradually the whole thing turns into a joint club evening.

Mandolini is classically trained: He studied guitar at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and then specialized in the art of beatboxing. He now combines both - at the club concert in the Kaiserkeller, he will perform music by Monteverdi together with the NDR Vokalensemble.

Monteverdi's music is particularly suitable for improvising on, says singer Anna-Maria Torkel, because it is so rhythmic: "Improvisation is a field that we have just started to explore. It's exciting and needs to be explored further!" Mandolini is also bringing his equipment and his own compositions with him again this time.
