Volkmar Köhler - Schönheit und Zerstörung

In the organizer's words:

The war in Ukraine, which has torn me from pacifist dreams, climate change, which is increasingly drying out landscapes, causing forests to burn, unleashing masses of water, melting polar ice and bringing to light the imponderables of things hidden in the permafrost - the urgency of this has pushed my artistic theme of the last 15 years, the throwaway society, into the background. The exhibition shows a series of wax paintings that are by no means dystopias, but rather a current
description of the current situation. The human being appears in the pictures, if then only as a small helpless being, at the mercy of what he himself has caused.

The technique: colored and heated wax is applied to canvas with spoons and shovels.
