A remarkable constitutional document was created in Ukraine as early as 1710: The so-called Cossack Constitution is considered one of the earliest written constitutions in Europe and bears witness to the deeply rooted understanding of freedom and democracy in Ukrainian history.
As part of the Ukraine lecture series of the Auslandsgesellschaft, historian Hanna Savchuk (Kyiv) will give a bilingual lecture (German/Ukrainian) on the creation, content and significance of this document.
The lecture will shed light on
- the historical background of the constitution
- its progressive significance in the European context
- the reasons for its failure
- and its symbolic power for today's Ukraine
Free admission. The event will be held in German and Ukrainian.
