Another distinguished visitor from Paris! After Olivier Latry last year, Thierry Escaich is another titular organist of Notre-Dame Cathedral, which was ceremoniously rededicated on December 7. Appointed in 2024, Paris has chosen an artist for this honorable position who is one of the outstanding figures on the French music scene, not only as an organist but also as a composer and improviser. For the Papenburg instrument, the largest organ from the Weimar Republic still preserved in Germany today, Escaich combines these three elements of his activity. As a "pure" interpreter, he spans the spectrum from Mendessohn Bartholdy, who is considered the creator of the Romantic organ sonata, to Louis Vierne, a predecessor in his Parisian post, to Stravinsky's legendary "Firebird" music. The fact that there is still room for his "III Poèmes" and an improvisation on a theme suggested by the audience is obvious for Escaich, as he says about the three talents of his artistic work: "Everything is mutually dependent, one is not possible without the other two."
