Every year, the former Electoral Kapellmeister of Hanover, George Frideric Handel, comes to life in our city in a lecture and performance by Dr. Franz Rainer Enste. The fact that this tradition is being continued in the 340th year of the great baroque master's birth is not just a special tribute.

For the first time, Handel and Enste are moving into the House of Jewish Music and Culture with a premiere: Handel's biblical or Hebrew or even Old Testament subjects are at the heart of the program. The figures of King Saul and Queen Esther, the judges Samson and Jiphtach, the prophet Joshua, Judas Maccabeus and Israel in Egypt flow into the biographically pointed and artfully presented narrative.

The Israeli coloratura soprano Rinnat Moriah, who has been hailed as a sensational discovery by the international press for her clear and highly virtuoso voice, her sense of idiom, charm and expressiveness, embodies her roles in a playfully compelling manner.

With additional instrumental accompaniment from Bonnie Wagner at the piano, the amalgam of musical and narrative performance promises to be a true gift to Hanover on Handel's 340th birthday.
